STORY

When your mobile home wood floor needs repair due to rotted wood, it would probably be best for you to entirely replace all bad wood while the floor is exposed; than trying to replace just a piece or two of wood.

This was a great example on my handyman project, the rotted wood frame inside the room on this mobile home was really bad due to water finding it’s way inside; replacing the entire wood floor frame was an option but repairing simply the rotted wood made more sense financially for the customer.

What I needed to do was to install new pressure treated wood to replace the ones that were rotted, instead of using the regular interior pine looking wood used when the floor was created; this type of wood lasts longer if water finds it’s way inside the room in the future.

Make sure to install new pressure treated wood around the edges of the room wall as strong as possible, as these pieces are going to be where you will feed from; when re-creating your floor wood frame.

If you are in a situation where the original floor was not pressure treated like in my example, you have the option to cut right from the rotted wood area and installing new wood from there; as well as removing the entire framework to then adding all pressured treated if you choose.

I recommend you take the opportunity to replacing the entire wood frame, since you now have it exposed like in my example; unless of course you are only repairing a spot there just replace the wood on that area.

Considering that I planned to stop the water leak into the room, as well as I planned to stain the plywood floor after it was installed; I personally decided to keep the good wood from the original framework and then adding whatever was needed in pressured treated instead to finish my floor base.
