Installing an Exterior Door leading to Garage using existing Jamb

STORY

At some point in your residential home there will be a time when a new door needs to be installed by a professional handyman for reasons like rotting or wearing maybe just because you want a new one in the first place.

In this project example the existing home owner had a wooden door leading to the garage and it needed to be a steel fire resistant type of door so it had to be replaced.

This door installation was not as other projects that are more straightforward such as a pre-hung model and instead we needed to adapt a steel like door to the existing frame.

Doing so helped keep the overall budget cost suitable for the customer and to do this we had to modify the original wood jamb and stopper pieces to fit the new interior door.

One solution I found in this particular Installing a Door example considering that the interior door purchased was the right size is to remove the old door stopper strip pieces from the wood jamb first.

The idea behind this approach was to save money on buying new casing or new jambs considering the existing were in good condition plus it would overall save money on labor too.

Choosing the existing hinges cutout and the removal of the original stopper wood it allowed me to install new door stoppers which came with the weatherstrip with it as well because the original ones did not.
