Painting Exterior of a Residential Home

  • Client Name: Sandra Luther
  • Project Type: Painting

Our HandyMan Project Process will always focus on planning every step, and implementing only what is related to stages; and at the end we complete everything by paying attention to details.

Before we begin working at a property, we first plan every step required; and we then create efficient stages to complete each project.

As we perform the steps required, we only implement services related to stages; and continue on until each is completed.

Once we have completed every stage, we then inspect each step for details; and begin to make improvements to meet our standard.

This single mom customer wanted to begin doing some home improvements to her family home, with the idea to begin the process of selling the property; one of the obvious things needed was a new paint job.

The home had an older look that was fading, from the front to the side entrance to the driveway; the home needed a lighter color she thought and mastermind handyman agreed too.

On the side entrance I began by sanding down the railing, so that when I applied the bright white it would stick well; and this would be the same white used on throughout the exterior of the home.

I then began to use the light gray she picked on the steps entry slab, the same color used throughout the entire floor.

The railing needed at least 2 coating of paint so, it would be more tick on there considering the traffic; people would be touching this part more than walls so two coats were ideal.

Considering also the steps slab would get a lot of traffic as well another coat there too was a good idea.

Similar application of paint was to be applied to the front entrance of the home, i painted the walls with the light gray customer wanted and also the entry slab; the poles and the door trim had the bright white used to compliment the overall look.

before I began cutting around was a good idea to allow for a simplier finishing application.

One step that made it look better was patching in the cracks visible on the cement slab, and also cleaning debris present on the steps; this allows for the paint to stick better.

Considering the amount of traffic going with 2 coats on the front entrance was also a good idea.

I found myself on the driveway of the home, located next to the laundry closet or more of a shed if you will; and I began by cleaning off any debris before beginning to paint.

One thing I like doing which helps with painting is cutting around the area where I am getting ready to start as this helps with speeding the rolling application.

I began on the side of the driway first to get a feel for how the paint would look like after sticking for a few minutes, as you may see here the left side was dried and the right side was still wet; i applied 2 coats on here as well considering the amount of traffic parking the car as well as people walking through the side.

Before I begin painting a section of a wall or a floor, I always like to begin with a cutting layout so I can see how it looks and how the paint dries; this allows me to determine in which way I should continue the rest of my painting application.

After my cutting test was done, I saw that the consistency of the gray paint after it dried was the same as that of the side entrance; so i finished that whole section before I moved to the right side as shown on the picture above.

The customer wanted to also utilize the white on the edge bricks as well next to the gray wall, in the effort to incorporate the white in other areas too.
