Replacing a new light switch should not be something we do often in our home or property. The plate though may be something we do choose to do whenever since they seem to crack easily if bumped into with furniture.

There will be times though that a light switch do decide to malfunction and look sort of worn out looking. This is for sure an indication to go ahead and replace the two while you at it.

You will only need a screw driver and a pair of gloves if is the first time messing with this just in case you touch the cables. I do this so much that I personally did not wear any though.

On this particular service the customer had experienced a switch that did not want to work. When I inspected the electrical cables I quickly noticed that it had shorted out. In addition to that though the switch itself was old which could have easily died due to its age.

Electrical concerns like this are so simple that it may not require an electrician most of the time. Simply removing the light switch and adding a newer one does the trick. I personally have gotten in the habit of removing those old brown looking ones and installing newer ones like white plastic ones instead for a much elegant look.

If you run into the situation where the screws do not want to hold the switch in place or the face plate in position. That is an indication that the old screws are worn out. So go ahead and use the new ones that came with the product if that helps or I’ve had to use longer ones in the past to help it go deep into the hole.
